History of origin
In 1988, a music teacher, Mr. Li Hongjun, saw the gradual decline of local culture and the loss of Hakka cultural relics, and resolutely left the field of music and entered the world of traditional crafts. He chose to protect culture with his own hands and founded the "Yuanxiangyuan Paper Umbrella Factory", dedicated to preserving and promoting the oil paper umbrella, an art that was about to disappear.
The three words "yuanxiangyuan" contain a deep historical sentiment.
"Original hometown" refers to the homeland where our ancestors migrated from the Central Plains to the south.
"Yuan" symbolizes the inseparable connection between culture and people.
In 1994, the "Yuanxiangyuan Paper Umbrella Cultural Village" was officially established, becoming the first park in Meinong with paper umbrella culture as its core. From a simple paper umbrella making factory in the early days, it has transformed into a cultural space that combines traditional skills and experiential education.

Brand Story-Founder Story｜Three generations of inheritance, the origin of paper umbrellas
Li Hongjun and his wife are the third generation inheritors of oil paper umbrella making. They inherited the skills and spirit of two old masters, Lin Xianghong and Liu Yunzhao, and regarded this traditional craft as their life's work. In 1994, they jointly founded the first "Yuanxiangyuan Paper Umbrella Cultural Village" in Taiwan with Hakka culture as the theme, and gathered the efforts of family members to create the first cultural base in Meinong with paper umbrellas as the core, making this place a veritable "home of paper umbrellas."
